Northshire Abbey, set in the hills of Elwynn Forest, is home to the Brotherhood of Northshire, the order of clerics, priests and paladins rebuilt here after the Second War. Today it also trains new defenders of Stormwind, while kobolds, wolves and Defias bandits press on the valley.

The Defias Brotherhood grew out of the Stonemasons Guild, the craftsmen who rebuilt Stormwind City after the orcs left it in ruins. When the nobles would not pay what they owed, the guildmaster Edwin VanCleef led a riot, fled the city with his workers and turned them into bandits. Their red bandanas stand for the blood of the oppressed.

The ring he carries is what finally proves to Stormwind that the Defias reach beyond scattered raids, a thread that later leads SI:7 straight to the Brotherhood's leadership.

Gryan Stoutmantle is a paladin of the Silver Hand who left the battlefields of Lordaeron when he heard the Defias had overrun Westfall. With no soldiers coming from Stormwind, he founded the People's Militia at Sentinel Hill and recruits young adventurers to drive the Brotherhood out.
