Loremaster in WoW: Forever, what counts and how to plan it
Finishing every quest in a zone is a long project, and most of the work is knowing which quests exist for your character at all. We cannot speak for how the game itself tallies quests in Forever, so this article sticks to our quest data and the rules our quest log counts by. They make a solid plan either way.
What our data holds
Our data covers 18 zones so far with 1321 quests: 681 for the Alliance, 604 for the Horde and 36 open to both factions.
What counts toward a zone
- Your faction's quests, plus the 36 quests open to both factions.
- Class quests only for your class. 389 quests are bound to one class: 340 class quests and 49 dungeon quests. A warrior does not need the mage's letters.
- Profession quests only if you learned that profession. There are 38 of them.
- Repeatable quests never count. There are 39. You can take them again and again, so they can never be finished, and a zone total that included them could never reach its end.
The starting zones in numbers
The last column is what any character of the zone's faction has to do, before class quests are added.
| Zone | Quests | Class quests | Repeatable | For every character |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 44 | 8 | 0 | 36 | |
| 45 | 8 | 0 | 37 | |
| 73 | 19 | 0 | 52 | |
| 73 | 34 | 2 | 37 | |
| 51 | 15 | 1 | 35 | |
| 68 | 20 | 2 | 46 |
Teldrassil also has 2 profession quests, which count only for a character with that profession. Durotar shows how much your class matters: 34 of its 73 quests are class quests, so the zone looks far larger in a list than it is for any single character. The table also counts the late quests some starting zones hold: Teldrassil, Durotar and Tirisfal Glades each have quests that need level 30 or more, and they count like any other quest there.
Chains and earlier quests
Our data groups quests into 251 chains, and 599 quests need at least one earlier quest done first. That is why a zone can look finished while its count is not: the missing quest is often a later chain step whose first step you never took. When you plan, look for chain starts first, then follow each chain to its end before you leave the zone.
A few requirements cross zone borders. 11 quests need a quest from another zone, for example:
The Touch of Zanzil (Alliance) in Stormwind City needs
Klaven's Tower (Alliance) from Westfall first.
Sample for Helbrim (Horde) in the Undercity needs
Zinge's Delivery (Horde) from Silverpine Forest first.
Quests that start from things, not people
71 quests in our data start from something other than a person: an item an enemy drops, a wanted poster, a corpse, a book, a chest or another object in the world. They are the classic gaps in a zone, because no town sends you to them. We list them for each starting zone, together with chain starts that are easy to walk past:

A plan that holds up
- Work zone by zone and take every quest your faction can get before you move on.
- Follow each chain to its last step while you are still in the area.
- Loot named enemies and read every wanted poster you pass.
- Ask your class trainer for class quests; skip the other classes' quests without worry.
- Leave repeatable quests for when you want them; they never count.
Where to go from here
Every seeded zone has a quest guide page with each quest's level, giver and reward. We built the numbers above from the quest data behind Forever Loremaster Quest Log, our quest log for Android, iPhone and the browser.
